It's huge. Overwhelming, basically. Hard to stay neutral
My impression of the country has been under a continuum of changing emotions and approaches. It started with ethnical connections, 10 years of studying at a Russian-speaking school and reading Russian literature. And then the community of Russian-speakers in Uzbekistan. It was generally very positive, probably even naive, though even the highly political ORT couldn't conceal some of the details of life in Russia.
Then there was Ukraine and it's permanent "love-hatred" state of relations with Russia. And 1-day stays in St. Petersburg on the trips to Finland. Not very impressive.
And lately I've been reading about the governmental program for ICT development in the country. Guys, that is something. You can feel the effort and determination. And also good to see that the oildollars are spend for the things that matter.
Russia, go-go! ;)
