NatConf

My second NatConf and the third Finnish conference.

Actually, I was feeling quite old (as an AIESECer): knowing many people and even the traditions of the Finnish official dinners (funny, I never thought I would be telling those to the Finnish AIESECers:)

I went there together with Katya Moskalets (ex-LCP of AIESEC in Odessa, she used to be on internship in India working for Tata, then stayed in the company for more years and then moved to Helsinki with one of their projects till the end of March, for now).

We came on the second day, so by the time we arrived MCP was selected (Helena, congratulations!), all speeches passed. But still we enjoyed some sessions, even contributed to the preparation of 60th anniversary and attended the official dinner.

One of the things that positively impressed me (I noticed that before, but not to this degree): the level of alumni involvement. It's something really intangible. Not like planning to call 20 alumni and ask them how they want to cooperate with AIESECers. It's the alumni who enjoy being in the organisation even after leaving it and establishing their careers, etc. They are now thinking about submitting a bid for EuroCo 2008 and the OC, for now, consists almost 100% of alumni! And it's not that someone asked them to do that. It just came to their mind :)

Now, back in Helsinki, we'll be working on Success 2008. I hope, it will be truly a success :)

Boiler Room

I have recently watched this film. Actually, it all started from a sesion by Nuno (the chair of Achieve 2008 in Norway). He showed a part of it together with the great speech by the Colonel from "The Scent of Woman".

Then Leentje told me more.

Anyway, to make th long story short, I downloaded the movie and watched.

So, it's defiitely worth seeing if you want:

1. To see good sales. Yep, it is quite conradictory from the moral side and it actually reminded me a very similar situation this summer when I was looking for a job. But still, the guy did sell well

2. To think about the value of ethics in any kind of work you do. And think about the relationships you have: with family, friends, sole mates, etc

3. Just enjoy a nice movie

Swedish and Finnish

I have just started learning those two.

Donno how to explain the feeling, but I just love learning new languages. It's like discovering the new land. Every single page gives you so much. You even start feeling closer with the locals, even though I have had just a couple of classes and my language is really basic.

Let's see how it goes

Italy and Norway

I am a bit slow to post this, but finally I've found time and place.

First of all, big THANK YOU, Mashenka!!! And hope to see you soon again. Now in Helsinki ;)

Some observations and conclusions:

1. Next time I decide to see a city, I'll put all effort just to have time and space for seeing and feeling it. Rushing through is not the best strategy :)

2. Maybe I've been in Helsinki for too long :) Italians are a bit too loud for me

3. Italians build impressive things. I hope I'll have enough time one day to come back, get used to the culture, feel it, experience the famous hospitality (and Sunday dinners :))

4. Conferences do happen without facis being dead by the end of them. And quite nice actually :)

5. Even if the common stereotype says that 2 countries are the same, be prepared to see many differences. And enjoy them :)

Yep. And thank you Magnus, Kirsten, Kenneth, Sonam and Camilla for selecting me ;) And Aisling, Leen, Kristin, Bjorn, Leo and Nuno for being in the same team :)
